His DJ and musical career was birthed in New York City Club Kid era. His contributions to the underground music scene and sound scores in the fashion industry and recent musical projects and collaborations continue today in Tokyo.

Young Richard was born in Brooklyn and raised in the Boogie-Down-Bronx. At that time, roller skating and break dancing were first introduced to New York. His main musical influences were Freestyle music, along with the 1980s New Wave, Alternative, and Industrial sounds that arrived in America. As a self-taught photographer and DJ, he became part of the Club Kid Culture in the mid-1990s. His photography captures the stories of the people who were part of this scene. He also worked as the opening act for artists such as Bjork, Nine Inch Nails, The ORB, and Clive Barker. In 1999, he left New York and continued producing tracks, playing at high-end fashion events, and performing for select artists and showcases as he did in New York. In his DJ career in New York, he played at iconic venues such as Limelight, Palladium, and Webster Hall and The Tunnel. He also had a residency at the legendary after hour “Save the Robots” and worked in an underground record shop called Throb. In 1999, he moved to Japan, where he engaged in the local club scene and held new residencies like CHURCH at 57, Language events at Bullets and in Aoiheya. He played regularly at various venues as Club Asia, Bul-lets, Maniac Love, Parco Commune, Rockets in Osaka, Get in Yamagata, and Hinotama Hall in Okinawa. YR also has always been the it guy for all of the music collaborations for Maggie James. names and brands as Silvestre Ribbon, Gunze & Body Wild, Clase Azul, Vivienne Westwood, Les Benjamins, and video scores for Kobayashi Takeru.
